GRiT: Girls Riding Together

Regional GRiT Events

We are excited to host 5 Regional GRiT Events this season!

These events will provide an opportunity for our female student-athletes and coaches to come together to connect. Each event will be about 3 hours long and accommodate 30-35 student-athletes plus female coaches, as space allows, to lead and support activities and rides. This will allow us to keep numbers below the current guidelines for outdoor events.

Events will include a yoga clinic with our certified GRiT Yoga Instructor, Annie Eastwood, a ride and scavenger hunt, bike games, a relay race, opportunities to work on bike skills and the chance to build our supportive network of female athletes in NC!

Student-athlete participants will be able to register in Pit Zone for only the event in their assigned region. When registration opens, Head Coaches, female coaches and female student-athletes will be contacted directly with registration information for the event in the region their team is assigned to.

Event schedule and registration dates are as follows:

3/14 Harris Lake County Park
3/21 Salisbury Community Park
4/18 Browns Creek – registration will be open 3/28 – 4/11
4/25 Falling Creek Camp – registration will be open 4/4 – 4/18
5/16 Dark Mountain – registration will be open 4/25 – 5/9

We hope that this opportunity will create a meaningful way for the females in our league to connect and have fun in a safe way during this unusual season. If you have any questions regarding Regional GRiT Events, please email We look forward to seeing you there!

The GRiT (Girls Riding Together) program is a NICA national initiative aimed at increasing the overall participation rate of female student-athletes and female coaches across NICA to 33% by 2023.

For the 2020 season the North Carolina League saw a female student-athlete participation rate of 18.3% (national average is 20.7%) and a female coach participation rate of 23.7% (national average is 24.7%). The North Carolina League is committed to continuing to increase this percentage for both our student-athletes and our coaches.

Our GRiT Coordinator, supported by a team of women coaches making up our GRiT Committee, is working to increase female participation at the coach and student-athlete level through various outreach events across the state.

We all know that girls are stronger when we support each other and lift each other up, and with that the North Carolina League has started a GRiT Ambassador program that empowers female student-athletes to mentor other female student-athletes across the league. Setting time aside for “girls only” events allows our female student-athletes and coaches to get to know each other and strengthen our mountain biking community.

Please contact us at if you have any questions regarding GRiT or how to get involved.
